Screen Options

Light, Air & Craftsmanship in Balance

Screens do more than keep the bugs out. They shape how your door looks, feels, and connects your home to the outdoors. The right screen balances airflow, visibility, and protection —letting in fresh air and light without glare or wear.

Every Vintage Door screen is built as part of the door itself — custom-fit, sturdy, and seamless. No sagging, no rattling. When you choose the right mesh, your porch feels open and connected. Choose the wrong one, and you’ll notice it right away: darker rooms, less breeze, and a shorter lifespan.

Use this guide to compare screen materials and find the one that fits your home best — whether you’re after high visibility, extra durability, or a screen tough enough for pets and kids.

How the Inserts Fit In

Each screen or storm insert fits neatly into a ¾″ aluminum frame — available in white or bronze — that locks into a matching wood surround built directly into the door. From the exterior, you’ll only see the woodwork. From the interior, the insert sits flush and secure with clean clips.

For oversized doors, you can choose a split insert for easier handling or seasonal swaps — especially useful for families with pets or children.

Screen Options

Each screen material offers a different balance of visibility, airflow, and strength.

This guide shows how they compare — from our standard fiberglass mesh to high-clarity, bug-resistant, and heavy-duty options. Choose the one that fits where you live and how you live.

Fiberglass

Our Standard Screen

Flexible, practical, and low-maintenance — our standard choice for everyday use.

It resists dents and creases, cleans easily, and allows steady airflow without glare or shine. A reliable, all-purpose option that suits most homes and climates.

Clear Advantage

High-Visibility Fiberglass

For those who want the screen to disappear.

This upgraded fiberglass has a finer weave and darker tone that reduces glare and makes the mesh nearly invisible from inside. You’ll enjoy crisp, open views and strong airflow — ideal for scenic porches or bright entryways.

No-See-Um Screen

Bug-Resistant

Built for buggy climates and lakeside living.

Tightly woven mesh blocks even the tiniest insects — gnats, midges, and no-see-ums — while still allowing light and air to pass through. A must-have for humid or wooded regions where standard screens let the smallest pests in.

Pet Screen

Tear-Resistant

Strong enough for real life.

Made from heavy-duty vinyl-coated polyester, Pet Screen is five times stronger than standard mesh. It resists scratches, tears, and stretching from paws or playful kids — perfect for high-traffic doors or households with pets.

Aluminum Screen

Black or Silver

Classic strength with a crisp, architectural look.

Rigid and long-lasting, aluminum screens hold tension beautifully and won’t sag over time. Choose black for clean visibility or silver for a brighter, more traditional finish. Best for homeowners who prefer structure and durability over softness.

Copper Screen

Bronze Finish

Elegant, enduring, and naturally refined.

This premium metal mesh starts with a warm bronze tone and develops a rich patina as it ages — blending beautifully with mahogany, oak, and other fine woods. It offers excellent visibility, superb weather resistance, and timeless character that deepens year after year.

Frame Color

Match your screen insert frame to your door’s tone or trim

White

Clean, bright, and classic.

Bronze

Warm, understated, and blends beautifully with stained wood finishes.

Permanent vs Removable Screens

Each setup suits a different kind of use.

image 71-1

Removable Screens

Choose a removable screen if you like flexibility — swapping in a storm panel for colder months, or removing the screen easily for cleaning and storage. It’s a practical choice for year-round porches or high-traffic homes with kids and pets.

image 71-1

Permanent Screens

Choose a permanent screen if you prefer a seamless, set-and-forget design. It stays in place all year, giving a clean, traditional look with no seasonal maintenance. Ideal for stable climates or porches that stay screened through every season.
